Dr. Finlay Gives Presentation to Dawson Study Club
Dr. Scott Finlay was a guest speaker at the Dawson Study Club for Complete Dentistry (DSCCD) in Morristown, New Jersey on Friday, May 13, 2011. His one day program, "Designing Predictable Aesthetic Smiles", was presented to an impressive group of well trained restorative dentists as well as several specialists and a dental consultant.

Of the presentation, Kavita Patel DDS of Colonial, New Jersey said, "Thank you for presenting a recap of the restoring anteiror teeth, it was really motivating for me. I learned a lot of invaluable tips to make the process of prep less stressful. Thank you for making my Friday memorable, educational and wonderful."

Flu Season is here. What preventions should you be taking? - Scott Finlay DDS, FAGD, FAACD
Flu Season officially starts October 1, hits its peak in February and winds down by May, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics infectious diseases committitee. Last year’s flu season was particularly robust, so it is forcasted that this year’s season should be less impactful, although many factors play into the reality of the experience. At our practice, we approach everyday as “flu season” for your protection and saftey. This past week our entire team lined up and rolled up our sleves for the flu shot so we will be prepared when the Annapolis area is exposed. The flu vaccine reduces the likelihood of getting the flu by 70-90%, according to the CDC. This year the CDC is recommending everyone over the age of 6 months should receive the vaccination unless otherwise contraindicated. The flu spreads usually through contact with tiny droplettes that can be airbone like those produced by sneezing or coughing. Another source is contact with surfaces that have been contaminated such as a child’s toy. You can take additional simple steps to avoid the flu by washing your hands, the use of hand sanitizers, keeping your hands off your face and covering your cough with your sleve or tissue rather than your hands. Getting enough sleep and remaining well hydrated with a balanced diet can boost your immunity as well. Finally, if you are sick, stay home and reduce your contact with others that you may pass it along to.

Lasin' is Amazin'
Dr. Finlay has completed training and has been certified in the use of Diode Dental Lasers by the International Center for Laser Education. Dental soft tissue lasers, or diode lasers provide a precise and effect way to perform dental procedures that require the management of contouring the soft tissue or gums. Procedures can be performed without the use of sutures and healing times are often greatly improved. In some applications, this can even be accomplished without the need for local anesthesia!

Dr. Finlay is voted the Top Dentist in the Greater Annapolis Area in 2010
What’s Up Annapolis Magazine polled over 300 dentists in the Greater Annapolis area and asked them one simple question: “If you or a loved one needed the services of a dentist, who would you recommend?” Dr. Finlay has perennially received the designation as the Top Dentist and has once again received the highest number of votes in the areas of General Dentistry and also in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Dentistry. Spring 2010
Baltimore Magazine recognizes Dr. Finlay as a Top Dentist in the Greater Baltimore area. Over 2000 dentists in Baltimore and the five surrounding counties were polled over the course of a month. An amazing 75% response rate was recorded for the survey. The results were then monitor by professional advisors to validate the authenticity. The poll went right to the source: dentists themselves. They were asked, who is the best in their respective specialty in the area. Only the top vote recipients were listed. Although Dr. Finlay has been perennially recognized by What’s Up Annapolis Magazine as the Top Cosmetic and Restorative Dentist, this is the first time that he has been acknowledged by the Baltimore Magazine.

Dr. Finlay awarded the status of Fellow by the AACD
It is with tremendous excitement and pride that we announce that the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) has awarded Dr. Finlay the status of Fellow. The AACD is the largest and oldest dental esthetic academy in the world. The credentialing process has become recognized as the gold standard in cosmetic dentistry, providing a measurement of a significant body of work from a candidate, by a national group of peers that are leaders in the world in cosmetic dentistry. In the 25 years of the AACD, only 51 professionals have earned this status. In 2007, Dr. Finlay reached the level of Accreditation with the AACD. Fellowship represents the highest tier of accomplishment by the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Finlay is the only dentist to be awarded this designation in 2010 and the only dentist in the Greater Annapolis area to have reached the level of Fellow. Dr. Finlay lectures in the United Kingdom
In December 2009, Dr. Finlay represented the Dawson Academy in the United Kingdom when he was invited to present a 3-day hands on program in dental esthetics to a group of dentists from the UK and Europe. This is the same lecture the Dr. Finlay presents 3 times a year at the Dawson Center in Virginia. Dr. Finlay joined the Dawson Academy as a senior faculty member in 2008 with a special focus in teaching dentists the relationship between dental esthetics and the functional health of an individual’s smile. Although his primary attention will always remain his private practice in Arnold, Maryland, he has enjoyed sharing his experiences and clinical successes with other dentists. Dr. Finlay subscribes to a restorative philosophy that is based upon proper functional design that is conducive to a healthy, durable and predictable result. “True dental esthetics is only a mirror of the relative health of an individual’s smile. Successful cosmetic enhancements require a keen eye on the functional design and health to insure restorative success,” reports Dr. Finlay.

Fall 2008
Dr. Finlay has accepted an invitation to join the Dawson Academy as a lead faculty member.  The Dawson Academy is recognized as one of the founding blue chip postgraduate education centers for dentists in the nation.  There are currently only 18 lead faculty with the Dawson Academy.  John Cranham DDS, the Director of Education with the Dawson Academy says, “We are all excited about Dr. Finlay’s interest in joining our team.  As the Dawson Academy continues to evolve, it is important that we continue to align ourselves with the best-of-the-best.  Being a lead faculty member is indeed an honor.”  Dr. Finlay’s primary responsibilities will be to teach the Restoring Anterior Teeth course and assuming a leadership role in developing the Dawson Academy’s Advanced Aesthetics Track.  Although 85% of Dr. Finlay’s professional activity will remain his private practice, he is excited about his new role as a mentor and teacher.  More information about the Dawson Academy can be found at http://www.thedawsonacademy.com/.

Summer 2007
Dr. Finlay is appointed as an Examiner for the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry (ABCD) that servers as the credentialing body of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD).  There are approximately 40 Accredited Dentists across the nation that are appointed as Examiners for the ABCD.  Their purpose is to serve as mentors to conduct testing, analyzing and evaluation of the services of dentists and laboratory technicians for the purpose of awarding AACD Accreditation in cosmetic dentistry.  Accreditation with the AACD has become recognized as the gold standard in esthetic dental care.
